Public Photography and Filming Policy

Photographer with cameraThe Port of Long Beach is a public entity, and much of the Harbor District is on public property, including public rights-of-way where the news media and/or the public may take photographs for news-gathering or non-commercial purposes. However, the media and public may not climb fences/walls or otherwise breach facilities not accessible to the general public, including areas leased to private entities.

The Port's Communications and Community Relations Division is available to provide information on safe areas to take photos from the public rights-of-way and point out areas that are not open to the public. In addition, the Division will notify Port Harbor Patrol so officers are aware of a photographer's presence in the Harbor District.Officers are responsible for protecting the public and the port, so they may question individuals engaged in unsafe or suspicious activity. The Communications and Community Relations Division can be reached at (562) 283-7700, M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All filming or photography for commercial purposes and any other photography shoots that impede public access or traffic, require traffic diversion or significant amounts of Port staff time and resources must go through a permitting process.Film permits may be obtained through the Port's Terminal Services Office at (562) 283-7760, M-F, 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
