Most people don't stop to consider the economics of international trade or the mathematical complexities of shipping shoes from overseas.But that will no longer be true for students in Long Beach and surrounding communities.

The Port - in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District - has created Port of Long Beach:Classroom, a series of lessons that combines real-world Port of Long Beach situations with content from the California state-approved curriculum.The result is an engaging and interactive curriculum that fully conforms to the state content standards while getting students excited about the major global seaport right in their own backyards.

Economics and International Trade:The Port has developed a trade-related educational program for the 12th grade economics curriculum.

Middle School Math:These interactive PowerPoint presentations use real-life Port of Long Beach examples to teach concepts from the state's middle school math curriculum.

High School Math:Using real-world Port of Long Beach examples, students will put their geometry and algebra skills to work.

High School Science:Students put their physics, chemistry and biology skills to the test with these real-world problems.
